The History of Northeast Elementary School

Image

Northeast Elementary School, located at 1002 East Highland Aven, Kinston, NC opened on August 25, 2009 at the start of the 2009-2010 school year.   Northeast is a merger of two elementary schools, Teachers Memorial Elementary school (built in 1957) and Bynum Elementary School.  Northeast is the first school created in the city since Kinston High was built during the integration in 1970.  Northeast Elementary is a K-5 school, with the current enrollment of 530 students.  The community decided to name our school Northeast Elementary, following the traditional naming scheme established by the two other Kinston elementary schools, Northwest Elementry and Southeast Elementary.
